A young adult found himself stuck on a cliff in Southern California Monday afternoon calling for a dramatic cliffside rescue caught on video.
At around 4 p.m. local time on Monday, Noah Kemp was at an Orange County beach when he climbed 20 feet up a hill until he reached a steep point where he could not move further, according to Laguna Beach Fire Department Administrative Captain Chip Gilmore. “He’s about 20 feet from the top with a lot more below up. So he’s probably two thirds of the way up (when) I believe when he gets stuck,” Gilmore told USA TODAY Wednesday.
Lifeguards were the first to arrive using drones to obtain solid visual footing of the situation, Gilmore said. Fire officials communicated with Kemp over the phone and used drones to evaluate the scene and later determined that a helicopter airlift would be required. Video shared by the Orange County Fire Authority captured a rescuer safely hoist Kemp away from the cliff at the Crescent Bay Beach. No injuries were reported.
USA TODAY has reached out to Kemp for comment.
